Fleece to Fibre Workshop

May 30, 2011

I am feeling a bit sad today as our 5 week workshop is coming to an end with the last couple of hours tomorrow afternoon.  It has been a fantastic time with some wonderful ladies and I think everyone has made some lasting friendships.  Both Andrea and Deb have suggested it would be nice to keep in contact and it has encouraged me with an idea I had while doing exhibitions around the UK. We don't have a spinning guild in Teesside and while this type of group would be too much work and too formal, an informal spinning group that meets once a month would be really nice.  Spinning yarn is such a social activity and in our workshop we sit and drink tee/coffee and catch up on news with each other.  It would be great to carry on with this so I am going to suggest we set up something more concrete and see if the ladies are interested and if there are others who would like to join in too. There is some fantastic cross skill offers with each other, Deb has a full fleece from Sam (off Coco the sheep) and in return Deb is going to knit a top for Sam (who can't knit) and Sam2 is also wanting another fleece.  I would like to do an exchange with Sam and offer to spin up one of her alpaca fleeces, in exchange for some alpaca as I have designed a jumper I would like to make myself and it is nice to have a personal connection to the source of fibre.  Hopefully we can continue this in the future and all help each other out. More photographs will be going up on the Facebook fanpage from the workshop and also some future shots of the ladies finished work.
